Farthest North Birdathon

What is Birdathon?

Birdathon involves counting as many bird species you see or hear in a 24-hour period within the state of Alaska. You can choose any day April 20th to May 20th. You will need to collect all your pledges and turn them in to Arctic Audubon Society. We have provided a Pledge Tracking Sheet to help you. There is also a receipt for tax purposes along with other information in the April edition of The Redpoll. You will need to make copies to give to people who want them. We hope you will all be part of Birdathon as there are many ways to participate.

• You can have fun birding on your own or get a team together. Collect pledges, either a set amount or so much per species seen.
• You can join one of our Spring Field Trips to count your species for the pledges you obtain.
• You can sponsor someone you know that is doing a Birdathon.
• You can send a check to Arctic Audubon Society and write in the memo Birdathon or Small Grants.

Birdathon Ice Cream Party May 20th

We encourage participants—counters and donors—to join us for an Ice Cream Party at the Georgeson Botanical Garden on May 20th at 4 pm. Everyone who comes and raised or donated money will get a Hot Licks Ice Cream Coupon. The "Golden Binoculars" award will be given to the person or team that sees the most species. There will also be prizes for the birders who raise the most money. So plan to get out and enjoy an Interior spring day birding and being part of our 41st Birdathon. If you have any questions or want hints on collecting pledges, feel free to call Sherry Lewis at 479-0848 after April 17th.
